In an industry often associated with legacies and lineage, Vardhaan Puri stands firmly by one belief, that performance is the only real privilege an actor/artist can have. While he carries a powerful and respected surname, the actor is clear that his journey is defined by his work first, and then his background.
“Privilege may open a door for a few, but it one’s performances on screen that decide how much impact can ultimately be created in the film industry,” says Vardhaan. “For me, the only real privilege is the opportunity to perform and evolve as a performer with every project. With each day my hunger for cinema keeps growing.”
The actor shares that he consciously pushes himself to learn, unlearn, and take feedback seriously. He believes audiences today are highly discerning and cannot be won over by mere associations or reputations.
“The audience despises lethargy and laziness and always gravitates towards sincerity, honesty and diligence,” Vardhaan adds. “The moment they sense these qualities, they respect both the film and the actor. Audiences are far more intelligent than we often give them credit for, and they can immediately tell when someone is truly putting in the work and giving everything to the film and the character.”
“Viewers connect only when the product is filled with honesty. They know when an actor is being and when the actor is pretending. And that honesty comes through only through years of preparation and dedication,” he further explains.
Vardhaan also emphasizes the importance of humility and patience in a fast-moving industry. He believes long-term success lies in staying grounded and constantly working on one’s craft and personal character.
He credits the changing dynamics of cinema for creating space for performers who prioritize substance over spectacle.
According to him, the rise of content-driven cinema has levelled the playing field for actors from all backgrounds.
